Toms River Pedestrian, 61, Airlifted After Being Struck By Car

A 61-year-old pedestrian from Toms River was critically hurt when he was struck by a car while crossing the road, authorities said.

On Monday at 4:58 p.m.,  police were dispatched to the intersection of Vaughn and Windsor avenues for a reported pedestrian struck.

Carl Cereghini, 61 of Toms River, entered the roadway in an attempt to cross when he was struck by a vehicle traveling north on Vaughn Avenue, police said.

Cereghini sustained serious injuries and was flown to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

The driver of the vehicle stated that Cereghini entered the roadway in front of them leaving no time for the driver to stop or avoid hitting him, police said.

here were no signs of impairment of the driver who did not sustain any injuries as a result of the crash, police said. The driver's name was not released by police. 

The crash remains under investigation by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Ryan Fitzgerald.
